Nepali Embassy urges Nepalis in the US to comply with American laws

WASHINGTON DC: The Nepali Embassy in the United States has urged Nepali nationals living in the country to conduct all activities strictly in accordance with US laws and regulations.

In a public notice, the embassy cautioned Nepalis and other foreign nationals residing in the US for study, tourism, employment, business, or family visits not to stay illegally, submit false information, or misuse benefits reserved for US citizens.

The embassy said it has received information from relevant US authorities that individuals found improperly accessing government-supported services, such as subsidized healthcare, housing, family assistance, or educational support, may face serious consequences, including the cancellation of their visa or green card status.

The notice also recalled that the US government has previously announced the suspension of certain immigrant visas for Nepali citizens after data showed that 2,024 Nepalis were among the highest recipients of subsidized government services in 2024.

The embassy has therefore requested Nepali nationals in the US not to depend on any form of assistance meant exclusively for American citizens and to strictly adhere to the conditions of their visas. It has also warned against the misuse of B1 and B2 visas, noting that the US government has recently introduced stricter provisions across various visa categories.

The embassy emphasized that compliance with US laws is essential to avoid legal complications and to protect the rights and status of Nepali citizens living in the country.
