Committee formed to probe Pokhara Bus Park land dispute

KASKI: A three-member committee has been formed to investigate complaints and disputes related to the exchange, sale-distribution, and compensation process of land acquired in 2030 BS for the construction of the Pokhara Bus Park in Pokhara Metropolitan City-9.

The Pokhara Valley Urban Development Committee has formed the panel under the chairmanship of former judge Shankar Raj Baral. Former District Attorney Govinda Giri and administrative officer of the committee Prakash Subedi have been appointed as members and member-secretary respectively.

The probe will focus on the remaining 187 ropani of land, after around nine ropani out of the total 196 ropani acquired for the bus park was used following highway expansion. Various complaints have been filed alleging irregularities in compensation distribution, land exchange, and allocation processes.

Pokhara Metropolitan City Mayor and Urban Development Committee Chair Dhanraj Acharya said the committee was formed after allegations surfaced that some individuals received compensation without eligibility and that there were irregularities in distribution.

He said the committee has been tasked with reviewing and analysing documents and decisions taken over the past 51 years and submitting a report from a quasi-judicial perspective. The panel has been given 15 working days to submit its findings.

“The committee will present a factual and impartial report on all issues raised regarding the Bus Park land. Cooperation from all sides is essential to establish this long-discussed project as a model of development,” Mayor Acharya said.

Meanwhile, the metropolitan city has also formed two separate committees to identify the status of squatters and landless families in the Bus Park area and to manage land-related issues.

According to the metropolis, the committees will conduct a detailed study of 572 squatters and landless families who have updated their records as of Jestha 20, and verify their actual status for proper management.
