National Assembly election: Voting concludes in Bagmati with 94 percent turnout



KATHMANDU: Voting has concluded in Bagmati Province for the National Assembly (NA) election.

A total of 89 provincial assembly members cast their votes, while 229 votes were recorded at the local level. The Bagmati Provincial Assembly currently has 104 members, six of whom resigned to contest the House of Representatives election.

Twelve members of the Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP), two from the Hamro Nepali Party, and one from the Nepali Communist Party did not participate in the National Assembly election.

At the local level, 229 of the 234 eligible voters cast their ballots. Three city mayors resigned to contest the House of Representatives, and one mayor was suspended. In addition, Dinesh Adhikari (Dudhauli Municipality), Ramesh Napit (Shankharapur Municipality), Apsara Lamsal (Helambu Rural Municipality), Muna Adhikari (Godavari Municipality), and Sanjeev Oli (Bigu Rural Municipality) were absent, according to the Provincial Election Office in Hetauda.

Six candidates are competing in Bagmati Province for the National Assembly seats. The Nepali Congress and CPN-UML have formed an alliance, fielding Prem Dangal from UML and Geeta Devkota as the candidate from the women’s cluster.

The Nepali Communist Party has nominated Prem Sapkota and Saroj Kumari Jha in the women’s cluster, while the Nepal Workers’ and Peasants Party has fielded Bikram Dhukuchhu and Kabita Maharjan in the women’s cluster. Vote counting is set to begin shortly.
