Kathmandu’s minimum temperature recorded at 4.5°C this morning

KATHMANDU: Kathmandu Valley recorded a minimum temperature of 4.5 degrees Celsius early this morning, according to the Weather Forecasting Division.

The temperature has dropped 1.5 degrees compared to yesterday, signaling clear skies and colder conditions in the valley. Meteorologists have said that the official minimum temperature will be confirmed later in the morning. At the same time on Saturday, the temperature stood at 6°C.

However, meteorologists noted that the official minimum temperature of the day is determined at 8:45 am, when the reading is taken again. On Saturday, although the early-morning temperature was 6°C, it dropped to 5.5°C by 8:45 am, which was recorded as the day’s minimum. A similar slight drop is possible in Sunday’s final reading as well.

Meteorologists explained that cloud cover plays a key role in temperature variation. When the sky remains cloudy at night, minimum temperatures tend to stay higher, while clear skies allow heat to escape, leading to lower morning temperatures.

Conversely, daytime maximum temperatures usually fall during cloudy conditions due to reduced sunlight and rise when skies are clear.

The Division records minimum temperatures daily at 8:45 am and maximum temperatures at 5:45 pm across Kathmandu and other parts of the country. The lowest reading of the day is classified as the minimum temperature, while the highest is recorded as the maximum.
