KATHMANDU: The United States (US) has reaffirmed its support for Nepal’s recovery efforts following the devastating floods of August 26, with discussions focusing on humanitarian assistance, disaster response, and strengthening bilateral cooperation.
Chargé d’Affaires, a.i. Megan Bouldin met Prime Minister Balendra Shah today and conveyed US President Donald Trump’s offer of support to Nepal, along with the condolences and sympathies of the American people to those affected by the disaster.
During the meeting, Bouldin thanked Prime Minister Shah for his government’s assistance in the search for missing American citizens. She also highlighted the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s (FBI) ongoing cooperation with Nepal Police in identifying disaster victims, with the aim of providing answers to American and Nepali families and others awaiting information about their loved ones.
Bouldin reiterated the US commitment to working closely with the Government of Nepal on flood relief and recovery efforts. She noted that the United States has provided more than $5 million in life-saving health, humanitarian, and forensic assistance to support Nepal’s response to and recovery from the disaster.
The two sides also discussed opportunities to further expand economic and commercial cooperation, including creating greater opportunities for American and Nepali businesses. Such cooperation, they noted, can contribute to Nepal’s immediate recovery as well as its long-term economic growth.
