Kathmandu-bound bus plunges into Trishuli, 17 dead



KATHMANDU: A passenger bus traveling from Pokhara to Kathmandu plunged into the Trishuli River in Dhading early Monday morning, leaving 17 people dead and 24 others injured.

The bus (Ga 1 Kha 1421) veered off the Prithvi Highway at Bhainsigouda in Benighat Rorang Rural Municipality-5 at around 1:30 am and fell into the river.

Armed Police Force spokesperson Bishnu Prasad Bhatta said that 17 bodies have been recovered from the accident site so far. Twenty-four injured passengers have been rescued and taken to various hospitals for treatment.

The identities of the deceased and injured are yet to be confirmed, and the cause of the accident remains under investigation.

Rescue operations are ongoing in coordination with all three security agencies. A specialized rescue team, including divers from the Disaster Management Training School in Kurintar, has been deployed under the command of Deputy Superintendent of Armed Police Force Sunil Giri from the Armed Police Force Disaster Management Base in Adamghat.
