Ashika Tamang refutes claims, says she will contest elections



DHADING: Social activist Ashika Tamang, fielded by the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) for the House of Representatives from Dhading-1, has rejected claims that she withdrew her candidacy, asserting that she will contest the election and serve as a representative of the people.

Tamang, who had been at the center of controversy over her German permanent residency (PR), on Facebook wrote, “Do not follow rumors. I will not withdraw my candidacy. I will come as a people’s representative.”

Her nomination had earlier sparked internal disputes at the RSP’s Ghantaghar office, and media reports had suggested that the PR issue forced her to step aside. However, Tamang’s statement clarifies that she remains committed to the electoral race.

RSP Vice-Chair Dol Prasad Aryal, who had supported her candidacy, is reportedly relieved by Tamang’s announcement. Party sources say she plans to continue her campaign while addressing eligibility concerns as per the legal framework.

Tamang is a resident of Malekhu, Gajuri Rural Municipality, Dhading, and has been active as a social activist advocating for local development and youth empowerment.

Under Article 291 of the Constitution of Nepal, Nepali citizens holding foreign permanent residency are generally considered ineligible for certain elected offices. Tamang, however, has indicated that she will clarify her status in line with legal procedures and continue her candidacy.
