NEPSE falls 5.30 points as turnover rises to Rs 4.10 billion



KATHMANDU: The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) index declined by 5.30 points to close at 2,594.06 points on Tuesday.

The market had dropped 19.13 points in the previous session, marking its second consecutive decline. Despite the fall in the index, daily turnover increased to Rs 4.10 billion from Rs 3.23 billion recorded on Monday.

A total of 78 companies posted gains, while 187 declined and 12 remained unchanged. Among the sectoral indices, only the development bank and non-life insurance groups recorded gains, rising 0.08 percent and 0.36 percent, respectively.

All other sectoral indices declined. The banking sector fell 0.03 percent, finance 0.91 percent, hotels and tourism 0.71 percent, hydropower 0.42 percent, investment 0.08 percent, life insurance 0.09 percent, manufacturing and processing 0.29 percent, microfinance 0.27 percent, others 0.18 percent and trading 0.57 percent.

The hydropower sector recorded the highest turnover, accounting for Rs 2.49 billion, or 60.66 percent, of the total market turnover. Commercial banks recorded turnover of Rs 320 million, while the manufacturing and processing sector saw transactions worth Rs 380 million.

Among individual companies, recently listed Sarvottam Paints gained the most, rising 14.99 percent. Crest Micro Life Insurance increased 14.95 percent, followed by Nadep Laghubitta with 6 percent, Everest Colour with 5.71 percent and Kalinchowk Hydropower with 5.56 percent.

Dhaulagiri Laghubitta recorded the biggest decline, falling 10.07 percent. Unnati Sahakarya Laghubitta dropped 4.23 percent, while Ridgeline Energy declined 3.86 percent.

The companies recording the highest turnover by value were Makar Jitumaya Suri Hydropower, Reliance Spinning Mills, Solu Hydropower, Super Madi Hydropower, Ridi Power, Aankhukhola Hydropower and Chandragiri Hills.
