Youth held for assaulting woman police officer in Kathmandu

KATHMANDU: Police have taken a 27-year-old man into custody on charges of assaulting a woman police officer deployed for traffic management in Baneshwar, Kathmandu.

The detained man has been identified as Raj Kathayat, originally from Tatopani Rural Municipality-2 of Jumla and currently residing in Baneshwar-10, Kathmandu.

According to Dan Bahadur Thapa, spokesperson for the District Police Range, Kathmandu, the incident took place at Baneshwar Chowk on Tuesday.

The woman police constable, who was on duty at the time, had asked Kathayat to use the overhead pedestrian bridge instead of crossing the road randomly. Kathayat allegedly assaulted her following the request.

“We have taken him into custody for assaulting the woman police officer. Necessary investigation and questioning are underway,” said spokesperson Thapa.
