KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress (NC) Vice President Bishwaprakash Sharma has called for the party’s internal disputes to be resolved through dialogue and consensus at the party office rather than through legal battles in the courts.
Speaking to journalists during the ‘Green Run’ organized by the Nepali Congress on Saturday, Sharma said the party should address its differences through discussions among leaders and workers at its central office in Sanepa.
He said the Nepali Congress is moving forward with “new thinking, a new perspective and new energy” and urged all leaders to work toward strengthening unity within the party.
“Although the Constitution and law provide a legal avenue for resolving disputes, that alone will not provide a solution,” Sharma said. “We will not make negative comments while the legal process is underway. But rather than resolving our differences in the courtroom, we should sit together at the party office, engage in dialogue and move the party forward.”
Sharma also said the leadership elected through the special general convention would not have a five-year tenure, as the party’s regular general convention is scheduled for Asoj.
He said the upcoming general convention provides an open opportunity for party members to contest for leadership positions. “This is not leadership that will remain for five years after the special general convention. The general convention is being held in Asoj, and the door is open to anyone who wants to contest for president, vice president or general secretary,” he said.
Sharma stressed that the party’s internal differences should ultimately be resolved through dialogue and consensus and that the Nepali Congress should remain united as it moves forward.
