Police arrest 40 people across country in arms-related cases during Baisakh

KATHMANDU: Nepal Police has arrested 40 individuals involved in arms-related offenses from different parts of the country during the month of Baisakh and made the details public on Friday.

According to Central Police Spokesperson and Deputy Inspector General Abinash Narayan Kafle, the arrests include three persons from the Kathmandu Valley, one each from Koshi, Madhes, and Bagmati provinces, 14 from Gandaki, nine from Lumbini, eight from Karnali, and three from Sudurpaschim.

Police said a total of 29 firearms were recovered from the suspects, including one Chinese pistol, one standard pistol, one revolver, two “katuwa” pistols, 21 homemade guns, one rifle, and two air guns.

In addition, authorities recovered ammunition including one round for a Chinese pistol, 263 rounds of SLR bullets, and 70 rounds of assorted cartridges.

Spokesperson Kafle said Nepal Police remains committed to cracking down on illegal arms possession and trafficking in order to maintain public safety and build a crime-free society. He also urged the public to report any information about hidden illegal weapons and to cooperate in surrendering such arms.
