KATHMANDU: Foreign Minister Shishir Khanal held a telephone conversation with Malaysian Foreign Minister Dato’ Seri Utama Haji Mohamad bin Haji Hasan on Monday, with the two sides discussing the disaster situation in Nepal and possible assistance from Malaysia.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Minister Hasan expressed condolences over the loss of lives and property caused by the disaster and conveyed Malaysia’s solidarity with the Government and people of Nepal.
During the conversation, Hasan said the Malaysian government was ready to provide additional assistance based on Nepal’s identified needs.
Minister Khanal thanked Malaysia for its support and solidarity and briefed his Malaysian counterpart on the government’s ongoing search, rescue, relief and rehabilitation efforts. He said the search for people still missing in the disaster-affected areas was continuing.
Khanal also assured that verified and necessary information concerning Malaysian nationals affected by the disaster would be provided in a timely manner. He further pledged close coordination with the Malaysian Embassy in Kathmandu.
The telephone conversation took place as search, rescue and relief operations continue in areas affected by Wednesday’s devastating flood in the Bhotekoshi River in Rasuwa, which caused significant loss of lives and property.
