TIBET: China has brought a new 4G/5G base station into operation near a major rescue site in Gyirong County of southwest China’s Tibet Autonomous Region, following a landslide that disrupted communication infrastructure in the area.
According to Xinhua, the new base station was constructed about 900 metres from the landslide-hit Gyirong Port and came into operation on Sunday. The facility has helped provide more stable communication coverage in the main rescue area.
A communications support team has also been deployed to locate and repair optical cables damaged by the landslide. The team is working in the affected area to identify damaged sections of the network and restore communication services.
A major landslide struck the Gyirong Port area on Wednesday, damaging roads, electricity infrastructure and communication facilities. The disruption of communication services had also created difficulties for ongoing search and rescue operations.
With the new 4G/5G base station now operational, rescue and relief teams are expected to have more reliable communication, helping improve coordination in the worst-affected areas.
Technical teams have been working to restore communication services, while efforts to locate damaged optical cables are continuing in the affected area.
