Harka Sampang suggests Home Minister Gurung should step aside amid controversies

KATHMANDU: Chairperson of the Shram Sanskriti Party, Harka Sampang, has said it would be appropriate for Home Minister Sudan Gurung to step aside amid ongoing controversies surrounding him.

Speaking at a press conference held in Singha Durbar on Tuesday, Sampang stated that repeated allegations against the Home Minister make it reasonable for him to pave the way, indicating resignation as a suitable course.

He, however, added that the government appears to be making efforts toward maintaining good governance and urged against rushing to conclusions.

Sampang also informed that his party has submitted a 33-point suggestion to the government upon request.

According to him, the party has recommended maintaining stable prices of essential goods, ensuring normalcy in daily life, and taking leadership in controlling inflation. It has also emphasized strengthening a non-aligned foreign policy and reducing foreign interference.

Among other proposals, the party has suggested implementing a policy of “one industry per term, one family, one employment” and restructuring education so that students spend three days on academic study and four days on labor, skills, and creativity to promote production and innovation.

The party has further called for ending all forms of discrimination, ensuring good governance, and maintaining proper records of martyrs, the disappeared, and those injured during political movements, along with providing them special state benefits.

It also stressed the need to guarantee independent and responsible journalism and protect citizens’ freedom of expression to strengthen democracy.
