Govt has no plans for demonetization: Finance Minister

KATHMANDU: Finance Minister Dr. Swarnim Wagle has clarified the government has no plans to pursue demonetisation at present.

Wagle made the remarks while addressing a ‘Citizens, Policy and Leadership’ dialogue organised by the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) at its central office in Banasthali.

Responding to questions from participants about why the government was not considering demonetisation, Wagle said the issue had not been under consideration.

“I heard some interesting questions from the participants about demonetisation. However, we do not think it is appropriate at this time. We have not considered demonetisation,” he said. Wagle also noted that the experience of countries that have implemented demonetisation has generally not been encouraging.
