Rain triggers heavy traffic in Kathmandu Valley

KATHMANDU: Several areas of the Kathmandu Valley experienced heavy traffic congestion following rainfall that began late this afternoon.

Traffic authorities said they faced difficulties managing the situation as waterlogging and reduced visibility affected road conditions.

Superintendent of Police Naresh Raj Subedi of the Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police Office said traffic jams were reported in Koteshwor and other major intersections across the city. Roads in areas such as Maitighar, Putalisadak, and Tinkune were inundated with drain water, worsening conditions for vehicles.

Subedi said traffic police are working to restore normal flow. He also urged the public to avoid unnecessary travel, warning of increased risks of accidents due to falling trees, possible electric hazards, and damage to structures.
