KATHMAMDU: The government led by Prime Minister Balendra Shah has decided to provide Rs 25,000 in rehabilitation support to each landless and squatter family displaced from riverbank settlements in Kathmandu.
A Cabinet meeting held at Singha Durbar on Tuesday approved the proposal put forward by the Ministry of Infrastructure Development to provide a one-time rehabilitation grant of Rs 25,000 per family after verification of those displaced from high-risk settlements.
The Cabinet also decided to provide Rs 15,000 per month for three months to manage temporary housing for displaced landless and squatter families, based on a five-member household.
Government spokesperson and Minister for Education Sasmit Pokharel said families with more than five members will receive an additional Rs 2,000 per month.
He also said elderly, disabled, and helpless individuals would be accommodated at designated holding centres.
According to the government, arrangements will also be made to continue the education of displaced children in coordination with local governments.
