KATHMANDU: The Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock Development and Environment has formed a technical task force to address rising human–wildlife conflict across the country.
The decision aims to control damage caused by wild animals, improve related policies and programmes, and strengthen implementation at the local level.
The ministry has formed a 15-member task force comprising experts in human–wildlife conflict management.
According to the ministry, the task force will conduct studies and research on wildlife-related damages, review the current situation, and recommend necessary policy and legal reforms.
It has also been assigned to select 20 wards as pilot sites based on indicators, implement sample projects, provide technical support, and carry out monitoring.
The task force will coordinate with federal, provincial and local governments to implement programmes and suggest improvements to make compensation mechanisms for crop damage more simple, effective and timely.
The ministry said further actions on human–wildlife conflict management will be taken based on the recommendations of the task force.
The move comes amid increasing incidents of wild animals entering settlements, causing attacks and crop damage, prompting stakeholders to call for expert-led interventions and targeted studies to address the issue.
