KATHMANDU: The Election Commission (EC) is distributing certificates to candidates elected under the proportional representation (PR) system today.

According to Krishna Bahadur Raut, election officer for the PR system, the certificates will be handed over at the commission’s premises at 11:30 am. The Commission has already published the final list of elected candidates submitted by political parties.

Members elected under the PR system have been asked to bring their original citizenship certificate or national identity card along with two passport-sized photographs.

In the March 5 House of Representatives election, six political parties secured national party status. Under the PR system, the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) won 57 seats, followed by the Nepali Congress with 20 seats, CPN-UML with 16, Nepal Communist Party (NCP) with nine, Shram Sanskriti Party with four, and Rastriya Prajatantra Party with four seats.

In the 275-member House of Representatives, 165 members are elected through the first-past-the-post system and 110 through proportional representation. The election process will formally conclude after the distribution of PR certificates.
