Over 46,000 vaccinated against Japanese encephalitis in Nawalparasi East

NAWALPARASI EAST: A total of 46,778 people have been vaccinated under a special campaign against Japanese encephalitis in Nawalparasi (Bardaghat Susta East). Among them, 19,109 are male and and 27,669 are women.

According to Keshav Chapagain, chief of the Provincial Public Health Office, the campaign has made notable progress across all eight local levels of the district, with 31.1 percent of the target population vaccinated as of Tuesday. He credited coordination with local governments for the campaign’s effectiveness.

Public Health Officer Prabin Kumar Khanal said vaccination services are being carried out regularly throughout the district. Progress has been particularly strong in Madhyabindu Municipality and Boudikali Rural Municipality, where coverage has reached 49.8 percent and 47 percent, respectively.

The campaign targets around 150,000 people above the age of 35, amid rising infection rates in recent years. Authorities have urged all eligible residents to visit nearby vaccination centers.

Health data show 15 cases of Japanese encephalitis have been reported in the current fiscal year, with six deaths. In comparison, seven cases and five deaths were recorded in 2079/80 BS, and eight cases with one death in 2080/81 BS. Officials expressed confidence that the campaign will meet its targets and help curb the disease.
