KATHMANDU: Finance Minister Dr. Swarnim Wagle has left for India on a three-day visit at the invitation of the Indian government. Wagle left Kathmandu for New Delhi this morning.
According to his secretariat, the main objective of the visit is to strengthen cooperation between Nepal and India on various economic, political and diplomatic issues, including post-disaster reconstruction.
Wagle is scheduled to meet his Indian counterpart, Nirmala Sitharaman, at 5:00 p.m. today. On Friday morning, he will participate as the chief guest in a high-level diplomatic dialogue organized by former Indian Foreign Secretary Shyam Saran. He is also scheduled to meet Indian External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.
Wagle will further participate in a large-scale meeting organized by India Trade Promotion Organization Chairman Javed Ashraf at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, according to his secretariat.
On Saturday, Wagle will participate as the keynote speaker at a conference with leading industrial houses organized by the Confederation of Indian Industry at 9:30 a.m.
He will also attend an academic discussion on development economics organized by the Delhi School of Economics at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday as the chief guest. Wagle is scheduled to return to Kathmandu at 4:00 p.m. the same day.
The visiting delegation includes Amrit Lamsal, Joint Secretary at the Ministry of Finance; Gehendra Rajbhandari, Joint Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs; Dr. Surendra Thapa, Deputy Chief of Mission at the Nepali Embassy in New Delhi; Taranath Adhikari, Minister of Economic Affairs; and Kanchan Basnet, Private Secretary to the Finance Minister.
