SANKHUWASABH: Koshi Province Chief Minister Hikmat Kumar Karki has said the provincial government has introduced various programmes targeting young people, with a focus on boosting production and addressing unemployment.
Speaking at a press conference in Khandbari, the district headquarters of Sankhuwasabha, Chief Minister Karki said around Rs. 8 billion had been allocated in the current fiscal year’s budget to support young people seeking employment and business opportunities in the province.
He said the programme aims to provide concessional loans for three years to young entrepreneurs interested in establishing and operating small and medium-sized enterprises.
Karki expressed confidence that the initiative would encourage young people to pursue entrepreneurship within the country while contributing to increased production and employment generation.
He said the provincial government had accorded priority to strengthening the provincial economy by promoting youth entrepreneurship and creating an environment in which young people could find opportunities within their own province.
“The situation has changed, and there are several factors behind it. We have introduced the budget for the current fiscal year and incorporated several important programmes and plans at the policy level,” Karki said.
He acknowledged that limited resources and constraints in the provincial government’s development budget had prevented it from carrying out as much development work as it had intended.
“In previous years, we laid the foundations for various development projects. We have been prioritising the expansion of the road network and the construction of infrastructure,” he said.
Karki also said the provincial government had been pursuing various policy reforms to strengthen good governance.
He said the government’s priority in the coming days would be to make development efforts more effective while advancing prosperity and good governance across Koshi Province.
