KATHMANDU: Peak electricity demand in Nepal is expected to reach around 1,700 megawatts on the day of Laxmi Puja this year, according to the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA).
The NEA has stated that it is fully prepared to ensure an adequate and uninterrupted power supply during the festival. NEA Executive Director Dirghayu Kumar Shrestha said domestic electricity generation would be sufficient to meet the estimated demand on Laxmi Puja.
Electricity generation during the period is projected to reach around 2,500 megawatts, exceeding domestic demand and ensuring sufficient power availability for smooth supply, he said.
The NEA has made special arrangements to ensure a reliable, regular and quality power supply to consumers throughout the Tihar and Chhath festivals.
Shrestha said chiefs of all concerned offices had been directed to make necessary preparations to prevent disruptions in electricity supply during the festive period.
The NEA has also instructed office chiefs to ensure that telephone calls received through the no-light service are answered regularly so that consumer complaints related to power supply can be addressed promptly.
