Rabi Lamichhane’s writ hearing deferred to Thursday

KATHMANDU: The Supreme Court of Nepal has scheduled the hearing of a writ petition challenging the decision to withdraw cases against Rabi Lamichhane, chair of the Rastriya Swatantra Party, for Thursday after it could not be concluded on Tuesday.

The hearing had begun on Sunday at a joint bench of justices Saranga Subedi and Sunil Kumar Pokharel. As the proceedings could not be completed, the case has been kept “under consideration” and will continue on March 19, according to Supreme Court spokesperson Arjun Prasad Koirala.

Earlier, a joint bench of justices Sapana Pradhan Malla and Shrikanta Paudel had ordered the petition to be presented for regular hearing on March 15.

Attorney General Sabita Bhandari Baral had decided to withdraw cases related to money laundering and organized crime filed against Lamichhane during the previous government.

Following the decision, separate writ petitions were filed at the Supreme Court by Yubraj Paudel, senior advocate Dinesh Tripathi and advocate Abhas Regmi.
