NEPSE continues downward trend, drops 20.75 points



KATHMANDU: The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) index continued its downward trend on Tuesday, declining by 20.75 points to close at 2,642.15.

The benchmark index, which had fallen by 8 points on Monday, slipped from 2,662.10 points to 2,642.15 by the end of Tuesday’s trading session. The market remained in negative territory throughout the day.

A majority of listed companies saw their share prices decline, with most sectoral indices also ending in the red.

Out of the traded companies, share prices of 214 declined, while 42 recorded gains and 6 remained unchanged.

Among sectoral indices, banking dropped by 6.17 points, development banks by 67.35, finance by 52.34, hotels and tourism by 86.75, hydropower by 58.14, investment by 0.50, life insurance by 99.47, microfinance by 24.44, non-life insurance by 82.34, others by 13.47, trading by 31.63, and manufacturing and processing by 67.26 points. However, mutual funds and the trading group registered gains of 0.10 and 8.37 points, respectively.

A total of 20,559,055 shares of 354 companies were traded through 83,075 transactions, with a turnover of Rs 8.36 billion. The turnover was slightly higher compared to Monday.

On Monday, 19,616,395 shares of 335 companies were traded through 80,559 transactions, amounting to Rs 7.94 billion.
