Foreign investment commitments reach Rs 39.23 billion in first six months of current FY



KATHMANDU: Nepal has received foreign direct investment (FDI) commitments worth Rs 39.23 billion in the first six months of the current fiscal year from its development partners, according to the Department of Industry.

As per the department’s monthly FDI report, investment commitments were recorded across 475 industries during the first six months of the fiscal year. In the first three months alone, 311 industries had received investment commitments amounting to Rs 35.13 billion.

The report shows that during the current fiscal year, seven large-scale industries, eight medium-scale industries and 460 small-scale industries received foreign investment commitments. In the month of Poush, commitments worth Rs 5.99 billion were recorded in 36 small-scale industries.

The total cumulative foreign investment commitment to date stands at Rs 675.43 billion across 7,713 industries, the department said.

Sector-wise, the highest number of FDI commitments in the past six months was recorded in the information technology sector, with 257 industries receiving investments worth Rs 1.07 billion.

In terms of investment volume, the agriculture sector topped the list, with 13 industries securing commitments worth Rs 21.88 billion. The tourism sector followed, with 145 industries receiving Rs 10.54 billion in commitments.

Similarly, the manufacturing sector saw investment commitments of Rs 2.03 billion across 27 industries. The energy sector recorded Rs 184.25 million in one industry, while the mining sector received Rs 45 million in one industry. The services sector attracted Rs 3.46 billion in foreign investment commitments across 31 industries.

The Department of Industry noted that foreign investment commitments continue to show sectoral diversification, with growing interest in agriculture, tourism and information technology.
