UML-affiliated youth wing protests decision to withdraw charges against Rabi Lamichhane

KATHMANDU: The National Youth Federation Nepal, the youth wing affiliated with the CPN-UML, has expressed strong objection to the government’s decision to withdraw organized crime and money laundering charges filed against Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) chair Rabi Lamichhane.

Association President Kshitij Thebe, in a statement shared on social media, termed the decision illegal, immoral, and an act that promotes impunity. He warned the government to immediately reverse the decision, stating that such moves undermine the rule of law and public trust in the justice system.

According to the association’s spokesperson, Niroj Paudel, the Criminal Procedure Code, 2017 clearly prohibits the withdrawal of cases related to serious criminal offences. He said the decision goes against both the spirit and the letter of the law.

The youth wing also questioned the silence of civil society members and public figures who had previously raised strong voices on the same issue, saying their inaction now raises serious concerns.

In protest against the decision, the National Youth Federation Nepal has announced a demonstration scheduled for 3 pm today at New Baneshwor, Kathmandu.
