KATHMANDU: The Nepali national cricket team has been formally sent off for the ICC T20 World Cup, scheduled to be held in India and Sri Lanka.

The Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) organized a farewell program on Saturday to wish the team success ahead of the global tournament. The squad will depart on Sunday, as it is set to play warm-up series in Sri Lanka and India prior to the World Cup.

Speaking at the farewell event, CAN Secretary Paras Khadka extended best wishes to the players and the support staff. “This is a tournament watched by the entire world, and Nepal has been performing well,” Khadka said. “Best wishes to the players and the management team. We also hope Nepali supporters in India will stand with the team.”

Captain Rohit Paudel said the team’s preparation has been encouraging. “Preparation has been going well. The training sessions have helped build good momentum,” Paudel said. “The year 2025 was very positive for us, and we hope this year will be equally successful. We aim to make all Nepalis proud.”

Head coach Stuart Law also expressed confidence in the team’s prospects. “We will finalize our plans through the practice matches,” Law said. “We are confident of performing well in the World Cup and making the Nepali people happy.”

CAN President Chatur Bahadur Chand said the team looks well prepared and capable of delivering strong performances. “The preparation looks very good. Conditions in India will also suit us,” Chand said, wishing the team success.

In the group stage of the World Cup, Nepal will face England, West Indies, Bangladesh, and Italy. Ahead of the tournament, Nepal will play practice matches against Sri Lanka ‘A’ in Sri Lanka and Mumbai’s MCA President XI in India.
