Opposition MPs demand removal of PM’s border remark from parliamentary record

KATHMANDU: Opposition lawmakers in the House of Representatives on Tuesday continued their demand to remove Prime Minister’s controversial remarks on Nepal’s borders from the parliamentary record.

At the beginning of Tuesday’s session, opposition MPs insisted that the Prime Minister’s statement suggesting that Nepal had also encroached on India’s territory should be expunged from the official records.

During the meeting, Nepali Communist Party MP Pramesh Hamal said the Prime Minister himself should clarify his remarks on border issues. He also urged the government to take serious note of ongoing alleged Indian encroachments along the border.

Similarly, Nepali Congress MP Rekha Kumari Yadav said only the Prime Minister should provide clarification on the sensitive border-related remarks, not other ministers or officials.

CPN-UML MP Tukabhadra Hamal described the statement as “anti-national” and demanded that it be removed from the parliamentary record.

Likewise, Shram Sanskriti Party leader Harka Sampang expressed confidence that the Speaker would issue a ruling to remove the remark, adding that the statement should be corrected.

Rastriya Prajatantra Party MP Saraswati Lama also stressed that the government must act responsibly on border issues, saying it was inappropriate for those in leadership positions to make irresponsible remarks.
