Lalitpur Metropolitan launches e-chalan system for instant digital fine payments

KATHMANDU: Lalitpur Metropolitan City has launched an e-chalan system (Digital Chit) that allows individuals to pay fines instantly through digital platforms.

The system has been introduced to facilitate immediate payment of penalties imposed for activities such as unauthorized parking, improper waste disposal, damage to plants and trees, and other prohibited actions within the metropolitan area.

Mayor Chiri Babu Maharjan said the municipality has implemented the QR code-based e-chalan system to make fine payments more convenient and efficient.

According to Maharjan, the initiative is part of the metropolitan city’s broader effort to provide citizen-friendly digital services and modernize administrative processes.

He said the new system will eliminate the need for individuals to visit the metropolitan office in person to settle fines, allowing payments to be completed immediately through digital channels.

The metropolitan city expects the e-chalan system to improve service delivery, enhance transparency and promote greater compliance with municipal regulations.
