President, Prime Minister and ministers visit Pashupatinath Temple on Maha Shivaratri

President Ram Chandra Paudel offered prayers and performed worship at Pashupatinath Temple on the occasion of Maha Shivaratri. On the occasion of Maha Shivaratri 2082, President Paudel, accompanied by First Lady Sabita Paudel, visited the temple on Sunday afternoon for darshan and special worship. He was received with sandalwood paste and flower prasad by the chief priest of the temple.

Voter education kicks off at all local levels in Kathmandu

A voter education programme has been launched in all 138 wards across the 11 local levels that fall under 10 constituencies of Kathmandu district. According to the District Election Office, Kathmandu, one volunteer has been mobilised in each ward to provide voter education in preparation for the House of Representatives (HoR) elections. The voting is scheduled to take place on March 5. Election Officer Thakur Bhattarai said the programme will continue until March 1.

EC issues 64-point directive for candidates

The Election Commission Nepal has issued a 64-point directive to political parties and candidates in connection with the upcoming election. At an interaction program with journalists regarding the House of Representatives election held at the Commission on Sunday, Acting Chief Election Commissioner Ram Prasad Bhandari said the directive was issued incorporating provisions of the election code of conduct.

Major agenda is fulfillment of public aspiration: NC President

Nepali Congress (NC) President Gagan Kumar Thapa has said NC’s major agenda is fulfillment of public aspiration and right direction to nation. A candidate for the House of Representatives election from Sarlahi Constituency-4, President Thapa reminded that the government’s challenge in the next five years would be to orient its actions towards public needs and sentiment.

Rabi Lamichhane unveils ‘Citizen Contract’: Not talk, but action; not speeches, but results

Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) Chair Rabi Lamichhane on Sunday made public a document titled “Citizen Contract” through Facebook, outlining the party’s commitments ahead of the upcoming election on March 5. The document includes pledges ranging from governance reform to prosperity and employment generation. The party has placed good governance as its top priority, pledging a zero-tolerance policy against corruption. It proposes ensuring timely delivery of public services through digital platforms, enhancing transparency and accountability in government services, and publishing online asset details of public officials.

RSP to unveil election manifesto on February 19

The Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) is set to release its manifesto for the upcoming House of Representatives elections on February 19. RSP President Rabi Lamichhane announced on Sunday that the manifesto, which the party calls a “promise to the people,” will be made public via social media. Lamichhane emphasized that the party intends to make commitments that can be realistically fulfilled. “Many politicians have made promises during elections, but it is the people who have faced the consequences when these promises were not kept. We are making a promise to the people, not empty promises that cannot be fulfilled,” he said.

Kulman Ghising-led Ujyalo Nepal unveils election manifesto

The Ujyala Nepal Party, chaired by Kulman Ghising, unveiled its March 5 election manifesto, outlining seven major plans aimed at transforming Nepal’s economy, infrastructure, and social services. The manifesto emphasizes ending load shedding and accelerating electricity production. The party aims to generate 12,000 MW of electricity by 2030 and expand hydro, solar, and wind energy with a focus on renewables. It also plans to increase installed capacity to 25,000 MW by 2030, make domestic consumption cheaper, and position Nepal as an energy-exporting nation.

Eleven kilometers of Nagdhunga-Malekhu road blacktopped

The 11-kilometer Nagdhunga-Malekhu section of the Prithvi Highway has been blacktopped, with eight kilometers completed last year and an additional three kilometers finished this year. According to Bijay Darai, Project Engineer of the Nagdhunga-Muglin Road Project, 40 percent of the third phase, including Kurintar, Fisling, Charaudi, and parts of Bishaltar, has been blacktopped so far.

ICC World Cup: Nepal suffers heavy defeat against West Indies

Nepal suffered a heavy 9-wicket defeat against the West Indies in Sunday’s ICC World Cup match at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. West Indies won the toss and elected to field first. Batting first, Nepal managed 133 for 8 in their 20 overs, with Dipendra Singh Airee scoring a fighting 58 runs, the only half-century for Nepal in the innings. Sompal Kami remained unbeaten on 26, and their partnership provided some resistance after early collapses. Other Nepalese batsmen struggled, with opener Kushal Bhurtel scoring 1, Ashif Sheikh 11, captain Rohit Poudel 5, Arif Sheikh 2, Lokesh Bam 13, and Gulshan Jha 11.

Mustang sends 4,391 kg of waste for recycling in six months

A total of 4,391 kilograms of solid waste has been transported from Mustang for recycling during the first six months of the current fiscal year. The Annapurna Conservation Area Project (ACAP) Jomsom has dispatched waste collected from Waragung Muktichhetra, Gharpajhong and Thasang rural municipalities to Pokhara for processing. According to Rajesh Prasad Gupta, Chief of the ACAP Jomsom Office, the project has been transporting non-biodegradable waste collected by local communities to Pokhara by truck since the last fiscal year. The initiative aims to keep the religious and tourist district of Mustang clean, orderly and environmentally friendly.

Atmosphere of confidence not ready for polls: Oli

CPN-UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli, arriving in Jhapa on Sunday for his election campaign, said that a fully confident environment for the upcoming polls has not yet been established. He emphasized that while his party is preparing for the elections, the interim government still needs to address key issues to ensure a smooth electoral process. Arriving from Kathmandu on Sunday for his election program in Jhapa, Oli said that his party is actively preparing for the polls.

Nepali Army marks 263rd foundation day on Mahashivaratri

Nepal’s premier security force, the Nepali Army, celebrated its 263rd Foundation Day and Mahashivaratri today by organizing various programs. President Ram Chandra Poudel attended a special program held at Army Pavilion (Sainik Manch), Tundikhel, in Kahtmandu as the chief guest on the occasion of Shivaratri and Army Day. The Nepali Army has been observing Mahashivaratri as Army Day for the past two decades. Marking the occasion, a parade featuring arms exercises, cannon salutes and processions was organized at Sainik Manch, along with various cultural performances.

Mahashivaratri: Devotees flock to Pashupatinath

Hindus across Nepal are celebrating Mahashivaratri today with devotion, reverence, and joy. Observed on Fagun Krishna Chaturdashi, Mahashivaratri is considered one of the most sacred days dedicated to Lord Shiva. According to the Shiva Purana, this festival commemorates the night when Shiva manifested and is counted among the four significant nights, Kaalratri, Moharatri, Sukhratri, and Shivaratri. The day is believed to inspire spiritual awakening and bring solace to those who are suffering or sorrowful.
