Kathmandu’s minimum temperature rises to 4.3 degrees Celsius

KATHMANDU: The minimum temperature in the Kathmandu Valley rose by 2 degrees Celsius compared to the previous day in the initial reading taken today (January 15).

According to the Weather Forecasting Division, the minimum temperature in Kathmandu was recorded at 4.3 degrees Celsius at 5:45 am on Thursday. At the same time on Wednesday, the minimum temperature stood at 2.7 degrees Celsius.

However, by 8:45 am on Wednesday, the temperature dropped further, with the minimum temperature recorded at 2.3 degrees Celsius.

The Division records minimum and maximum temperatures daily across various parts of the country, including Kathmandu. The minimum temperature is measured at 8:45 am, while the maximum temperature is recorded at 5:45 pm. The lowest temperature observed is classified as the minimum, while the highest is considered the maximum.

Meteorologists say cloud cover plays a key role in temperature variation. If the sky remains cloudy overnight, the minimum temperature tends to be higher in the morning. In contrast, clear skies at night allow heat to escape, resulting in lower morning temperatures.

During the day, cloudy conditions limit sunlight, keeping maximum temperatures lower and making the weather cooler. Conversely, clear skies allow more sunshine, raising maximum temperatures and making the day warmer.
