Tek Narayan Pandey sentenced to four years in fake Bhutanese refugee scam



KATHMANDU: The Kathmandu District Court has sentenced former Home Secretary Tek Narayan Pandey to four years in prison and a fine of Rs 40,000 in the fake Bhutanese refugee scam.

The court determined Pandey’s sentence on Tuesday in the case involving a scheme to send Nepali citizens to the United States by falsely presenting them as Bhutanese refugees. Pandey had earlier been convicted on July 7.

The court sentenced him to two years in prison and a Rs 20,000 fine for fraud, three years in prison and a Rs 30,000 fine for organized crime, and one and a half years in prison and a Rs 15,000 fine for offenses against the state.

Under the integrated sentencing provision, the court imposed a total sentence of four years in prison and a Rs 40,000 fine.

Pandey is currently in prison.
