Nepali Congress central working committee discusses 15th General Convention, review of govt’s 100 days
The Central Working Committee meeting of the main opposition Nepali Congress has taken up discussions ranging from preparations for the party’s 15th General Convention to a review of the government’s first 100 days in office. The meeting, held at the BP Smriti Bhawan at the party’s central office in Lalitpur on Sunday under the chairmanship of party President Gagan Kumar Thapa, discussed contemporary political developments and the party’s future strategy. General Secretary Pradeep Paudel presented various proposals for discussion. Preparations for the 15th General Convention have been listed as the major agenda of the meeting.
Religious flags to be removed from public places after Devanaganj tension; restrictions on DJs, microphones
An agreement has been reached to remove religious and communal flags displayed in public places and roads in Sunsari following communal tensions in Devanganj Rural Municipality-3, Kaptanganj. A meeting held at the District Administration Office, Sunsari, on Sunday under the chairmanship of Chief District Officer Ishwar Prasad Aryal agreed to remove flags displaying a particular ethnic, religious or communal identity from public places and roads. The meeting was attended by religious leaders and representatives from different communities and focused on maintaining religious harmony in the district. Tensions erupted in Kaptanganj on August 10 following a dispute over the playing of DJ music, which later turned violent and resulted in three deaths. The incident subsequently heightened communal tensions in the district.
Lumbini province to support efforts to prevent land erosion in Susta
Lumbini Province Chief Minister Chet Narayan Acharya has conducted an on-site inspection of areas affected by erosion caused by the Narayani River in Susta, West Nawalparasi. Chief Minister Acharya visited Susta on Sunday and inspected the area where an existing temporary embankment has been damaged by river erosion. He said the provincial government would provide support to prevent further erosion. He said the provincial government would provide assistance from its Disaster Management Fund for the construction of an embankment to protect Susta’s land from the river. Acharya also said materials including wire mesh and sandbags required for constructing a temporary embankment would be provided.
Capital market fails to regain momentum since Balen became Prime Minister
Nepal’s capital market has failed to regain the level it had reached before Balendra Shah became prime minister, with the Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) continuing to remain under pressure. Shah took the oath of office on March 27, after which NEPSE opened for trading on March 29. On that day, transactions worth Rs 14.78 billion were recorded, while the NEPSE index fell 71.05 points to 2,879.11. The market has continued to lose momentum since then, with daily turnover in recent days averaging around Rs 3 billion. On the latest trading day, Friday, NEPSE fell 4.05 points to close at 2,650.09. The total turnover stood at Rs 3.66 billion.
Body of missing woman found in Sunkoshi river
The body of Tila Kumari Parajuli, who had gone missing along with her husband after jumping into the Sunkoshi River from Dolalghat in Kavrepalanchok last Wednesday, has been recovered. According to police, the body of 67-year-old Tila Kumari Parajuli of Mandandeupur Municipality-7 was found in the Sunkoshi River near the Okhaldhunga border on Sunday. Tila Kumari had gone missing along with her husband, Kedarnath Parajuli. The whereabouts of Kedarnath remain unknown, and police said the search for him is continuing.
Balen’s changing diplomatic style: once reluctant to meet, now engaging Ambassadors of major powers
Prime Minister Balendra Shah appears to be changing his diplomatic approach after completing 100 days in office. In the early days of his government, Shah had taken a position against holding one-on-one meetings with foreign diplomats, preferring collective engagements instead. However, he has now begun moving back towards a more conventional diplomatic approach. Prime Minister Shah is scheduled to hold separate meetings with Indian Ambassador to Nepal Naveen Srivastava and Chinese Ambassador Chang Mao Ming on Monday. Gagan tells rivals: I won’t be intimidated, suppressed, or misled
Nepali Congress (NC) President Gagan Thapa has said that he cannot be influenced by pressure, fear, or temptation. Addressing the party’s Central Working Committee meeting in Sanepa on Sunday, Thapa made it clear that he would move forward in accordance with the party statute. “Do not intimidate me, do not suppress me, and do not mislead me,” Thapa said. “I know that I am bound by the statute, and I must follow it.” His remarks came at a time when internal disputes over preparations for the 15th General Convention, leadership legitimacy, and membership issues are intensifying within the party.
Former Kapilvastu mayor Kiran Singh found dead
Former mayor of Kapilvastu Municipality and Nepali Congress leader Kiran Singh, who had been missing for the past three days, has been found dead. The body of the 65-year-old Singh was discovered in the Gorusinge forest area of Kapilvastu on Sunday, according to Kapilvastu Police Chief Superintendent of Police Manohar Bhatta. Singh had left his residence in Kapilvastu Municipality-3 at around 2:00 pm on Friday and had remained out of contact since then. Police said the motorcycle used by Singh, bearing registration number LPR 01-013 PA 7970, was found parked in a forest area about eight kilometers from the East-West Highway.

President Ram Chandra Paudel has emphasized the need for meaningful participation of Indigenous peoples in state decision-making, saying sustainable peace, social harmony, and national unity are essential for strengthening Nepal’s integrity. Addressing a program organized by the Indigenous Peoples Commission on the occasion of the 32nd International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples, President Paudel said Nepal is a country characterized by multiethnic, multilingual, multireligious, and multicultural diversity. He said the unique identity and culture of Indigenous peoples who have lived in the country since ancient times are a source of national pride. “Indigenous peoples are the sons and daughters of this land, with an inseparable and spiritual connection to water, land, and natural resources,” he said.
Plainclothes police to be deployed to curb LPG black marketing
Plainclothes police personnel will be deployed at various cooking gas depots across the Kathmandu Valley to help curb black marketing and artificial shortages. The decision was made in coordination with the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Ministry of Industry after authorities received complaints about irregularities in the distribution of LPG gas. Industry Minister Gauri Yadav took a special interest in the matter after the ministry began receiving continuous complaints from consumers alleging that traders were creating artificial shortages and selling gas at inflated prices, despite there being no problem with imports from India.
