KATHMANDU: The Kathmandu District Court has sentenced Keshav Prasad Dulal and Sanu Bhandari, identified as the principal masterminds in the fake Bhutanese refugee scam, to four years in prison and a fine of Rs 40,000 each.
The court delivered the sentencing on Tuesday against 16 individuals who had previously been convicted in the high-profile case.
Dulal and Bhandari were sentenced to two years’ imprisonment and a Rs 20,000 fine for forging government documents, two years and a Rs 20,000 fine for fraud, three years and a Rs 30,000 fine for organized crime, and one year and a Rs 15,000 fine for offenses against the state.
Under Nepal’s provisions on integrated sentencing, the court imposed a consolidated sentence of four years’ imprisonment and a Rs 40,000 fine on each of the two convicts.
Both Dulal and Bhandari have remained in judicial custody since the beginning of the trial.
