KATHMANDU: Lawmakers have called for a detailed discussion in the parliamentary committee on issues related to the printing of electronic passports.
During Tuesday’s meeting of the Public Accounts Committee, lawmakers said matters of public importance should be discussed by inviting the concerned authorities whenever questions are raised. Some members, however, argued that the committee should not deliberate on issues currently under judicial consideration.
Lawmakers Barshaman Pun, Krantishikha Dhital, Mahendra Bahadur Shahi, and Khushbu Oli, among others, expressed their views on the e-passport printing issue.
They noted that complaints regarding the passport printing process had already been filed with the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA), which had concluded that there were concerns surrounding the matter. The lawmakers said allegations of irregularities exist, while the extent of any wrongdoing remains to be determined, and urged the concerned agencies to address the issue.
Committee Chair Bharat Bahadur Khadka said the committee had received suggestions from lawmakers during Tuesday’s meeting and would decide its next course of action on the passport printing issue after the court delivers its verdict.
