KATHMANDU: Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) chair Rabi Lamichhane has instructed party lawmakers not to visit flood-hit Rasuwa and Nuwakot merely as tourists.
Lamichhane issued the directive after RSP lawmakers were seen visiting flood-affected areas, including on government helicopters, prompting criticism over their conduct.
Lawmakers Reema Bishwakarma, Sagar Dhakal, Badan Bhandari and Jwala Sangraula faced criticism on social media after they were seen touring the affected areas.
Amid growing criticism of their activities, Lamichhane received a briefing on the post-flood situation at the party’s central office on Sunday and issued instructions to the lawmakers.
According to a party leader, Lamichhane directed lawmakers not to stay or travel around flood-affected areas unless their presence was required for essential work.
Victims had also questioned the conduct of lawmakers who were seen visiting the disaster-hit areas in a manner perceived as being more like tourists, at a time when the country is facing one of its major disasters.
