Skills gained abroad should be used for development of motherland:  Foreign Minister Sharma

KATHMANDU: Minister for Foreign Affairs Balananda Sharma has urged Nepalis living abroad to use the skills, knowledge, and experience they acquire overseas for the development of their motherland.

Inaugurating the 12th World Conference of the Non-Resident Nepali Association in Kathmandu, he called on NRNs to actively participate in the country’s economic and social growth. He emphasized that the association could also serve as a bridge to strengthen Nepal’s geopolitical relations and enhance its soft power.

Highlighting the role of non-resident Nepalis as cultural ambassadors, Minister Sharma said they could contribute by promoting mutual trust and cooperation. He added that the government plans to amend relevant laws to safeguard and promote the association’s activities.

On another note, he assured that the government remains vigilant about the security of Nepalis living in West Asian countries affected by ongoing conflicts. Rescue flights have been organized through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Nepali missions in those countries to assist citizens in emergencies.

Badri KC, Executive Chair of the association, said the NRNA is actively facilitating investment in Nepal and reaffirmed its commitment to protecting the rights of non-resident Nepalis.
