Gagan Thapa says 14th CWC dissolved, Special Convention proceeding officially

KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress General Secretary Gagan Thapa has asserted that the party’s 14th Central Working Committee (CWC) has been dissolved by the Special General Convention and that the convention is officially proceeding.

Addressing delegates at the Special Convention on Wednesday, Thapa said the decision to dissolve the previous CWC has already been communicated to the Election Commission.

“Nepali Congress is not anyone’s private company. It is fine for the party to take disciplinary action, but shouldn’t they first seek a written or verbal explanation before punishing me?” he asked.

He added, “The party is not divided. We are here in the Special Convention hall. We stand on the side of truth. We fear no one. Whoever stands for truth must maintain dignity. We stand for truth, and we will prevail.”

Thapa challenged the legitimacy of the Central Committee presented by the Purna Bahadur Khadka faction, calling it unofficial. Drawing on his understanding of the party constitution, Election Commission procedures, and court practices, he emphasized that the ongoing Special Convention is the legitimate process for party operations.

He further stated that the Special Convention will move forward with party-building, aiming to reorganize the Nepali Congress in accordance with its constitution and institutional procedures.
