Gagan Thapa sole candidate for NC president, Sharma and Paudel file for General Secretary

KATHMANDU: In the ongoing second Special General Convention of the Nepali Congress, current General Secretary Gagan Kumar Thapa is the only candidate to file nomination for the party president post.

The nomination registration, held at Bhrikutimandap, Kathmandu, began on Tuesday and concluded Wednesday morning, with Thapa remaining the sole contestant for the top post.

For the position of General Secretary, leaders Bishwa Prakash Sharma and Pradeep Paudel have submitted their nominations. Sharma is the current General Secretary, while Paudel had lost the General Secretary race in the 14th General Convention.

Bahadur Singh Lama, former chief minister of Bagmati Province, has filed his nomination for the Deputy General Secretary post.

So far, the Election Committee has not disclosed details of other nominations for the party office-bearer positions.

Following the conclusion of nominations, the General Secretaries Gagan Thapa and Bishwa Prakash Sharma are preparing to take the convention to the voting process.

At the same time, efforts are being made to achieve consensus among all elected committees. The Election Committee is processing nomination papers with necessary approvals for withdrawals to facilitate a smooth and unanimous setup.

The Special General Convention organizers aim to finalize the central working committee, including office-bearers, by consensus before submitting it to the Election Commission.
