Nepal urges implementation of Buddha’s teachings for global peace at UN event

KATHMANDU: Nepal has called for the practical implementation of the teachings of Gautama Buddha to promote global peace, saying his message continues to guide the world toward harmony and cooperation.

Speaking at a special event held on Monday at the headquarters of the United Nations on the occasion of Buddha Jayanti, Nepal’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Lok Bahadur Thapa, stressed the need to develop Lumbini ,the birthplace of Buddha, as a global symbol of peace.

The event was jointly organized by the permanent missions of Sri Lanka and Thailand.

According to Nepal’s mission, the program highlighted Lumbini as a symbol of world peace, spiritual revival, and shared human values.

Ambassador Thapa said Buddha’s timeless teachings on compassion, non-violence, mindfulness, unity, and wisdom remain highly relevant in today’s world, which continues to face conflict, division, inequality, and climate-related challenges.

He described Vesak not only as a religious celebration but also as a collective global call to build a peaceful, just, and sustainable future for humanity.
