NUWAKOT: The Nuwakot District Administration has restricted nighttime traffic on the Tokha-Chhahare road section due to an increased risk of landslides and mudslides following continuous rainfall.
According to Chief District Officer Shambhu Prasad Regmi, the road will remain closed to traffic from 10 pm to 5 am every day, citing safety concerns along the route connecting Nuwakot with Dhading and the Rasuwagadhi border point with China.
The restriction has been imposed after rainfall triggered landslides and mudslides at several locations, particularly around Ghattekhola in Shivapuri Rural Municipality-8. The measure, which came into effect from the night of Monday, will remain in place until further notice.
However, emergency vehicles, including ambulances, will be allowed to operate during the restricted hours. Security personnel will also be deployed at vulnerable locations to monitor the situation.
CDO Regmi urged the public, transport operators and other concerned parties to avoid unnecessary travel during the monsoon, particularly at night, and to travel only when necessary.
The District Police Office, Nuwakot, has also urged commuters to remain cautious, citing the continuing risks posed by road and weather conditions, and called for cooperation in implementing the restriction.
For disaster-related information and assistance, the public can contact the District Police Office at 100, the Armed Police Force at 1114, and the District Emergency Operations Center at 1234.
