KATHMANDU: A total of 65,886 Nepali citizens have registered their personal details on an online portal launched by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Nepal amid growing tensions and conflict in West Asia.
The online registration system, introduced by the Department of Consular Services Nepal on March 2, aims to collect information on Nepali nationals residing in the region to facilitate assistance if required.
According to the ministry, the submitted details are currently being assessed and processed for further necessary action.
Tensions across West Asia have intensified following attacks on Iran by the United States and Israel, raising concerns over the safety of thousands of foreign nationals, including Nepalis, living and working in the region.
The portal allows Nepali citizens to submit their personal information through respective Nepali embassies operating across West Asian countries.
The ministry said Nepali diplomatic missions in the region are working in coordination with the government to ensure the safety and welfare of Nepali citizens.
According to ministry spokesperson Lok Bahadur Paudel, Nepali missions have been instructed to stay in contact with citizens facing difficulties through email, telephone or other communication channels.
The directive was issued following decisions taken at the second meeting of the Emergency Response Team coordinated by Foreign Secretary Amrit Bahadur Rai.
The ministry has also urged Nepali nationals currently in West Asia to remain patient during the ongoing crisis and avoid recording or circulating photos, videos, or audio materials that violate local laws.
