KATHMANDU: Police have seized goods worth more than Rs 614,000 that were allegedly brought into the country by evading customs duties from various locations in Sunsari district.
According to Deputy Superintendent of Police Chandra Bahadur Khadka, a joint team from the District Police Office, Sunsari, and its subordinate units carried out a special operation on Wednesday and Thursday, during which the illegally imported goods were confiscated.
The seized items include clothing, grocery products, and a motorcycle used in transportation, recovered from six different locations across the district.
Police said goods worth Rs 427,000 were seized from Inaruwa-1 alone. Similarly, items worth Rs 105,000 were recovered from Barju-4, Rs 30,910 from Ramdhuni Municipality-5, Rs 30,000 from Inaruwa-6, Rs 10,697 from Duhabi-3, and Rs 10,500 from Koshi-5.
The confiscated goods have been sent to the Setubandha Customs Office in Sunsari for legal action.
Superintendent of Police Keshab Kumar Thebe said monitoring and enforcement activities have been intensified along the border areas to curb smuggling and illegal cross-border trade.
