Finance Minister Wagle challenges allegations over EV tax leak claims

KATHMANDU: Finance Minister Swarnim Wagle has challenged claims that confidential information was leaked during the formulation of tax rates for electric vehicles (EVs), calling the allegations politically motivated and aimed at damaging his reputation.

Speaking at the Public Accounts Committee meeting on Thursday, Minister Wagle said there was a deliberate attempt to spread misinformation against him.

“Show proof that I have even done wrongdoing worth two rupees, not even two billion. I will resign not only as Finance Minister and from politics but from public life itself,” Wagle said. “Do other politicians also have such a moral commitment?”

He rejected accusations of irregularities in EV tax determination, insisting that no confidential policy information had been improperly shared.

The remarks come amid ongoing parliamentary scrutiny and debate over EV import taxation and related customs procedures, with lawmakers raising concerns over possible irregularities in recent sessions.

The committee is expected to continue discussions on the issue in upcoming meetings.
