KATHMANDU: Nepal Police has urged the public to take necessary precautions as air pollution levels have increased significantly in Kathmandu and other major cities across the country.
Issuing a public notice on Wednesday, the Police Headquarters called on citizens to remain alert and prioritize their health amid worsening air quality.
Central Spokesperson of Nepal Police and Deputy Inspector General of Police, Avi Narayan Kafle, said the advisory was issued to encourage people to adopt safety measures and minimize exposure to polluted air.
According to Kafle, the police have put forward a six-point appeal requesting people to stay indoors unless it is absolutely necessary to go outside.
The advisory also urges the public to reduce vehicle use by sharing rides or traveling together whenever possible. Citizens have also been asked not to burn garbage around their homes and to avoid outdoor activities during periods of high pollution.
Police have further advised vulnerable groups—including children, elderly people, and individuals suffering from respiratory problems—to take extra precautions and regularly use protective masks.
Kafle added that anyone experiencing breathing difficulties or other respiratory symptoms should immediately seek medical assistance from the nearest hospital, health center, or doctor.
Air pollution levels have been rising in Nepal in recent days with changing weather conditions, with the impact particularly visible in urban areas including the Kathmandu Valley.
The Ministry of Health has also urged the public to remain cautious and take special care of their health during this period of increased pollution.
