Cabinet approves PM Balendra Shah’s US visit
The government has approved the participation of a Nepali delegation led by Prime Minister Balendra Shah in the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly. A Cabinet meeting held Thursday approved Prime Minister Shah’s visit to the United States to attend the General Assembly from September 22 to 26. The meeting also decided to form a Nepali negotiation team to participate in the Nepal-India Inter-Governmental Sub-Committee meeting to be held in New Delhi. The Cabinet further granted in-principle approval to draft a bill aimed at controlling the growing problem of unfair financial transactions, commonly known as loan sharking.
Newly appointed Industry Minister Dipak Kumar Sah assumes office
Newly appointed Minister for Industry, Commerce and Supplies Dipak Kumar Sah has assumed office. Sah, who took the oath of office from President Ram Chandra Paudel on Thursday, reached the ministry in Singha Durbar and formally assumed his responsibilities. Sah was appointed minister following the resignation of Gauri Kumari Yadav. Sah, who had served as a vice president of CK Raut’s Janamat Party, joined the Rastriya Swatantra Party ahead of the March 5 election. He has been involved in various issues related to climate change and is regarded as an influential technical figure within the party.
Industry Minister Gauri Kumari resigns
Minister for Industry, Commerce and Supplies Gauri Kumari Yadav has resigned from her post. Yadav submitted her resignation to Prime Minister Balendra Shah on Thursday.
Deputy Speaker donates one month’s salary to flood victims
Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives Ruby Kumari has decided to donate one month’s salary to support the relief and rehabilitation of people affected by the Bhotekoshi River flood in Rasuwa. Deputy Speaker Ruby Kumari has directed the Administration Department of the Federal Parliament Secretariat to deposit her one month’s salary into the Prime Minister’s Disaster Relief Fund. She decided to donate the amount to support relief, rescue and rehabilitation efforts for citizens affected by the flood.
Opp’n urges govt to form special committee on flood response
Opposition parties represented in the House of Representatives (HoR) have urged the government to form a parliamentary special committee to make disaster management, search and rescue, relief and rehabilitation efforts more effective. A meeting of the opposition parties held at the Nepali Congress Parliamentary Party office in Singha Durbar on Thursday decided to call on the government to establish the committee to monitor and inspect relief and rescue efforts, provide additional recommendations and facilitate the government’s response through parliamentary mechanisms, according to CPN-UML Parliamentary Party Deputy Leader Padma Aryal. Aryal said the opposition parties had decided to raise a strong voice in Parliament for the formation of the special committee and to continue drawing the government’s attention to the fact that it has yet to establish such a mechanism.
House committee directs govt to ensure swift implementation of court verdicts
Nepal has reached the final of the ongoing ACC Premier Cup in Malaysia after defeating Oman by 87 runs in the semi-final. Batting first, Nepal posted 147 runs, with Dipendra Singh Airee top-scoring with 51 runs and Bashir Ahmad contributing 47. Oman struggled against Nepal’s spin attack and were bowled out for 60 runs in 28.1 overs. Sandeep Lamichhane and Dipendra Singh Airee took three wickets each for Nepal, while Rohit Paudel and Lalit Rajbanshi claimed two wickets apiece.
Gas shortage protest: Students cook food on firewood at campus gate
As the government struggles to resolve the ongoing gas shortage, students have taken their cooking pots to the streets—turning a campus gate into a makeshift kitchen. In a symbolic protest on Thursday, students affiliated with ANNFSU (Revolutionary), a student organization of the Nepali Communist Party (NCP), cooked rice and gundruk-potato (fermented leafy greens and potatoes) curry over firewood at the gate of Ratna Rajya Laxmi (RR) Campus in Kathmandu. They then sat together at the gate and ate the food they had prepared. The protest was aimed at drawing attention to the impact of the gas shortage on everyday life. With cooking gas increasingly difficult to find, some students say their studies have been disrupted as they spend hours standing in queues to buy gas. Others have stopped cooking in their dormitories altogether, while some say they are being forced to survive on noodles and biscuits.
SEBON pipeline expands with IPO proposals from two investment companies
The Securities Board of Nepal (SEBON) has added the initial public offering (IPO) proposals of two investment companies—Nexgen Management and Equity Solutions Limited and Baidik Investment Company Limited—to its pipeline. Nexgen Management and Equity Solutions Limited has proposed issuing 1.25 million ordinary shares at a face value of Rs 100 each. The proposed IPO would raise Rs 125 million for the company. Laxmi Sunrise Capital Limited has been appointed as the issue manager for the offering. The company will be able to issue the shares to eligible local and general investors only after receiving approval from SEBON.
Dr Hari Prasad Lamsal appointed chair of Teacher Service Commission
The government has appointed former secretary Dr Hari Prasad Lamsal as the chairperson of the Teacher Service Commission. A Cabinet meeting held Thursday appointed the office-bearers of the commission. The government also appointed Ram Sharan Sapkota of Makwanpur as a member and Bishnu Ghimire of Kathmandu as the woman member of the commission.

Industry, Commerce and Supplies Minister Gauri Kumari Yadav lost her ministerial post a day after making strong remarks against LPG gas entrepreneurs, saying they needed to be dealt with firmly to resolve the ongoing shortage. Yadav had faced criticism over the government’s inability to ensure a regular supply of cooking gas, with the shortage continuing across the country for nearly a month. Her remarks against gas entrepreneurs at a parliamentary committee meeting on Wednesday also put Prime Minister Balendra Shah under pressure. Speaking at a meeting of the Industry and Commerce and Labour and Consumer Interest Committee at Singha Durbar on Wednesday, Yadav said strict action against gas entrepreneurs was necessary to improve the supply situation.
Night bus service to expand across Kathmandu Valley with six new routes
Night bus services in the Kathmandu Valley will be expanded to six new routes, with 28 buses scheduled to operate from September 19. The decision was made at a meeting chaired by Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) Acting Chief Sunita Dangol, attended by mayors, deputy mayors and officials from municipalities involved in the night transport service. According to KMC, the meeting decided to add 28 night buses to six routes in the valley from September 3, coinciding with Constitution Day. Kathmandu Metropolitan City, Lalitpur Metropolitan City, Chandragiri Municipality and Budhanilkantha Municipality have been operating night bus services in coordination with Sajha Yatayat since April 14, 2026.
Krishnabhir landslide triggers Hetauda-Kathmandu traffic congestion
The Prithvi Highway has remained blocked for 10 days following a landslide at Krishnabhir, forcing vehicles travelling to and from Kathmandu to take alternative routes and causing severe traffic congestion on the Hetauda-Kathmandu road. With the main highway impassable, vehicles heading to and from Kathmandu have been diverted to alternative routes, resulting in a significant increase in traffic on the Hetauda-Kathmandu road over the past week. Following the surge in traffic, the District Administration Office, Makawanpur, designated separate routes for light and heavy vehicles travelling between Kathmandu and Hetauda from Bhadra 16.
Opposition parties hold meeting in Singha Durbar
A meeting of opposition parties is underway at the Nepali Congress Parliamentary Party office in Singha Durbar. Leaders said the meeting is discussing four agenda items, including the devastating flood in the Bhotekoshi River. According to the opposition parties, discussions are focused on the catastrophic flooding in the Bhotekoshi-Trishuli river system, the decisions of the all-party meeting and their implementation, the performance of committees recently formed by the government, and other current political developments.
PM Disaster Relief Fund balance exceeds Rs 12.43 billion
The Prime Minister’s Disaster Relief Fund currently has a balance of more than Rs 12.43 billion. According to the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers, nine bank accounts operated under the fund held deposits totaling more than Rs 9.14 billion as of 9 am today. Similarly, US$21,637,691 has been deposited in the fund’s dollar-denominated accounts at two banks. The office said the combined balance of the fund amounts to Rs 12.433 billion. According to the latest details, the fund received Rs 172.57 million and US$274,062 during the 24-hour period ending at 9 am today.
House committee directs govt to ensure swift implementation of court verdicts
The Law, Justice and Human Rights Committee of the House of Representatives has directed the government to ensure the prompt and effective implementation of court verdicts. The committee, at a meeting held at Singha Durbar on Thursday, reviewed the current status of verdict implementation and directed the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs to take immediate and effective measures, stressing the principle that “justice delayed is justice denied.” The committee also directed the Supreme Court to strengthen its Judgment Implementation Directorate or make it more adequately resourced, effective and empowered by bringing it under the executive branch, according to committee chair Samiksha Baskota.
