KMC to launch ‘Film Festival in Every Neighborhood’ campaign

KATHMANDU: The Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) is set to launch a ‘Film Festival in Every Neighborhood’ campaign aimed at connecting film professionals with local communities and recognizing their contribution to society.

Ashaman Sangat, coordinator of KMC’s Heritage and Tourism Committee, said the initiative would help bring all sectors of the film industry closer to the public while promoting filmmaking as a respected profession.

The campaign will be implemented by KMC’s Heritage and Tourism Department in collaboration with non-profit organizations, youth clubs, community groups, neighborhood development committees, cultural associations, and traditional local organizations.

According to Sangat, film screenings will be organized in open public spaces, including courtyards, public squares, amphitheaters, parks, and traditional Newar community spaces such as Baha and Bahi.

KMC has invited interested organizations to submit proposals to help manage the community-based events. Proposals can be submitted through the metropolitan city’s website by midnight on June 10.

KMC department chief Kumari Rai urged organizations and community groups to participate in the campaign and support its implementation.

She said a committee would be formed to select films based on quality, content, and presentation standards. The committee will also oversee and monitor the overall operation of the campaign.
