KATHMANDU: President Ram Chandra Paudel addressed a joint session of both houses of the Federal Parliament on Friday, emphasizing that economic prosperity and effective service delivery must be the primary focus of the newly elected government.
This was the first time the President addressed a joint session since the general elections held on March 5. Speaking at the Parliament Building in Singha Durbar, President Paudel called on the legislature to prioritize the control of corruption and the creation of domestic employment opportunities to address the growing frustration among the nation’s youth.
“The recent election has brought an unprecedented wave of young participation into Nepali politics, signaling a new hope,” President Paudel said.
He said the government’s chief responsibility is to move beyond traditional thinking to create a market-oriented education system that ensures young citizens can find meaningful careers within the country. “No nation can develop with a frustrated workforce,” he said, urging the state to foster a culture that respects labor.
On the administrative front, the President stressed the need for a transparent and accountable government. He noted that the public expects doorstep service delivery and an end to the procedural delays and irregularities that have historically hindered national progress. He commended the interim administration for successfully conducting the polls and called on the new government to maintain a balanced diplomacy focused on national interest and climate change mitigation.
President Paudel concluded his address by urging all political parties to set aside past bitterness and unite for the sake of national unity and economic stability. Following the address, the session was adjourned, marking a formal milestone in the current parliamentary calendar as the nation transitions into its new legislative era under the leadership of the Rastriya Swatantra Party.
