Kathmandu air quality deteriorates to very unhealthy level



KATHMANDU: Air quality in Kathmandu has reached a very unhealthy level, with pollution intensifying in the capital on Wednesday morning.

According to real-time data from IQAir, the Air Quality Index (AQI) in Kathmandu stood at 210 as of Wednesday morning while preparing this report. An AQI reading above 150 is considered unhealthy, while levels above 200 fall into the very unhealthy category.

As per the air quality index approved by the Government of Nepal, an AQI of 0–50 is considered good, 51–100 moderate, 101–150 unhealthy for sensitive groups, 151–200 unhealthy, and 201–300 very unhealthy. A reading above 301 indicates a hazardous level.

Kathmandu currently ranks as the second most polluted city in the world. Delhi holds the top position.
